A tool to automatically detect artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) activities using satellite data and artificial intelligence. It helps governments and conservation organizations to monitor ASM activities and deforestation connected to ASM.

Cleangold

A mercury-free, affordable, and safe mining system that can capture finer gold particles better than mercury. The Cleangold system increases miners’ yields while helping them avoid the use of toxic chemicals.

Mercury Capture System

Mercury Capture System. Click to expand.

Developed by The Mercer University team, this system removes dangerous elemental mercury vapor emitted in the air during the final stages of gold extraction and at the initial stages of gold refinement, reducing harmful mercury pollution from artisanal and small-scale gold mining activities.

Picoyune

A next-generation portable mercury sensor (including a wearable model) that will help gold shops, NGOs, miners, and industries detect mercury contamination in real time while in the field.

Project Inambari

Project Inambari. Click to expand.

An open mapping platform to detect artisanal and small-scale mining, providing an essential tool for government regulators and groups advocating for conservation. Their mining detection model is primarily based on a novel source of open source satellite radar imagery from European Space Agency’s Sentinel-1 satellites.

A mobile-based technology solution to help monitor social, environmental and human rights hotspots and create more cost-effective and miner-centric monitoring systems.

ASMSpotter

A tool to automatically detect artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) activities using satellite data and artificial intelligence. It helps governments and conservation organizations to monitor ASM activities and deforestation connected to ASM.

The good governance component of the solution involves working with trusted partners as part of existing initiatives to educate them on the responsible use of this powerful monitoring solution.

Cleangold

A mercury-free, affordable, and safe mining system that can capture finer gold particles better than mercury. The Cleangold system increases miners’ yields while helping them avoid the use of toxic chemicals.

It may also be used at former mining sites to remove mercury from the environment.

Mercury Capture System

Developed by  The Mercer University  team, this system removes dangerous elemental mercury vapor emitted in the air during the final stages of gold extraction and at the initial stages of gold refinement, reducing harmful mercury pollution from artisanal and small-scale gold mining activities.

Testing Location: Gold shops and processing plants in Guyana

Picoyune

A next-generation portable mercury sensor (including a wearable model) that will help gold shops, NGOs, miners, and industries detect mercury contamination in real time while in the field.

The analyzer uses a novel spectroscopic method, plasmonic sensing, based on changes in visible light transmission of a gold amalgam nanoparticle film.

Project Inambari

An open mapping platform to detect artisanal and small-scale mining, providing an essential tool for government regulators and groups advocating for conservation. Their mining detection model is primarily based on a novel source of open source satellite radar imagery from European Space Agency’s Sentinel-1 satellites.

Their new map platform is based on frequent and cloud penetrating imagery, which has the potential to provide a continuous stream of input data for detecting and monitoring mining operations, alerting communities, governments, and conservation groups working to protect tropical forests.

Partner: Peruvian Service for Natural Protected Areas (SERNANP)

Quipu

A mobile-based technology solution to help monitor social, environmental and human rights hotspots and create more cost-effective and miner-centric monitoring systems.

It helps conservation organizations, local governments, and communities monitor mercury usage and deforestation sites.
