Northern Michigan's August 2021 Climatology

Above normal temperatures for all climate sites for the month of August.


  • All climate sites recorded above normal temperatures and precipitation for the month of August. All sites fell within the top five warmest Augusts in recorded history, with Sault Ste. Marie reaching their warmest ever average temperature for the month, being 5.1° above their normal of 65.6° (70.7°)!
  • Precipitation for the month was all over, with Sault Ste. Marie and Alpena below their normal and the rest of the sites about 1.50" - 2.50" above normal. Only one site ranked in the top ten wettest ever, and that would be Traverse City, who recorded their 5th wettest August on record with 5.38" recorded.
