Safer Space

Mission

Indigenous peoples and communities in Canada are amongst the most vulnerable when it comes to natural disasters and receiving sufficient funds and resources for preparedness for natural disasters. By bringing attention to wildfire occurences, we hope to help alleviate this vulnerability Indigenous communities face by giving users the ability to document potential hazards and donate to certified sources of funding through our application.

Fires in Canada

Every year, more than 8,000 wildfires occur in Canada, causing massive damage to individuals, natural habitats, and the environment ("Wildfires", n.d.). In fact, in 2021, around 60% of the fires in Canada occurred in provinces where Indigenous communities were located (Ravindran, 2021).
