Monterey Bay Hope Spot

The Monterey Bay on California’s Central Coast has it all: estuaries, salt marshes and rocky intertidal shores provide home for hundreds of marine life species, including migrating whales, sea otters, the pinnipeds, sharks, crustaceans and much more!

The underwater submarine canyons and one mile deep water channels near the shore bring many cutting-edge marine research and education centers to the area. Once at the brink of depletion, Monterey Bay has been granted United States Marine Sanctuary protection, and is now considered an example of a healthy balance between environmental protectionism and a thriving and varied eco-tourism industry.
