1859
The suburb of Hatfield was proclaimed on a portion of the Koedoespoort farm
1885
Koedoespoort farm was sold to the Wesleyan Methodist Society
1899
The Wesleyan Methodist Society established a hospital camp in Hatfiled to aid people during the Anglo Boer War
1903
The Wesleyan Methodist Society sold the land, on which Hatfield was located, to the Colonial Secretary of the Transvaal, Patrick Duncan
1910
The Transvaalse Universiteits Kollege (University of Pretoria) was founded
1932
Hatfield's first business, Hatfield Bakery, was founded by Sakkie Andrews
1980s
The Rissik Station Stores were built North of the railway and were the first block of stores to be built in Hatfield
1982
Varsity Bakery, a popular hangout for students, was established
late 80s
The business district of Hatfield rapidly developed
1989
Construction started on Brooklyn Mall
2011
The Gautrain Hatfield Station came into operation
Who lives in Hatfield?
With the development of the University of Pretoria in 1910 (then known as "Transvaalse Universiteit Kollege"), being first only situated in the area from Roper Street to University Road, to now covering the entire area "from Prospect Street in the North, Lynwood Road in the South, University Road on the West and Harold Street on the East.” The expansion of the university means that there is a high density of students living in the area surrounding the university which is seen as the area of Hatfield.
