Waterford Airport Mapping

This map shows the Waterford Airport Public Safety Zone and the Laser Protection Zone. You can click on the map to interact with it. Select the expand icon to enlarge and zoom into the Airport and click on either the Public Safety Zone or the Laser Protection Area to highlight its description.

Public Safety Zones are areas adjacent to the start and end of a runway in which development of the land is restricted for the safety of people on the ground. Various zoning and development activities are permitted for each of the PSZ contours. The goal is to limit development that would result in human presence over long periods of time. For example, sporting complexes and places of employment, where the severity of an aircraft accident would be significantly increased due to the enhanced exposure to risk by occupants in these areas.

There are three zones located around the airport: 1) Laser-Beam Free Flight Zone (LFFZ): Laser irradiance level to not exceed 50 nW/cm2 2) Laser-Beam Critical Flight Zone (LCFZ): Laser irradiance level to not exceed 5µW/cm2 3) Laser-Beam Sensitive Flight Zone (LSFZ): Laser irradiance level to not exceed 1 00µW/cm2 The dimensions vary depending on the type of zone, as can be seen in the exhibit. Laser operations may be conducted within these areas so long as the irradiance of the laser does not exceed the stated value for the flight zone. Notification to the airport and the IAA of laser operations is required in advance of laser operations.
