With so much space there is so much potential into what this airport could become. The city of Pacoima and Pacoima Beautiful have come together to push for the closure of the Whiteman Airport. The Whiteman Airport has hurt the city of Pacoima more than it has benefited the city. This airport is a danger to the people who live around, causes environmental issues like pollution, and really doesn't benefit the community of Pacoima. Pacoima Beautiful doesn't just want the airport closed; they also want to completely transform that land into something that will not only bring more money into the community but benefit everyone in the community as well. The people of Pacoima and Pacoima Beautiful have had multiple meetings together to figure out what the people want the land to become once the airport is closed. Together they came up with the rendering map shown above. This rendering includes many different areas that all provide different amenities to the community while ultimately bringing the community together. They have also provided some rendering pictures of what the places could look like.
These are three different rendering of what the city of Pacoima and Pacoima Beautiful envisioned the new land to look like and how they intend it to be used. They want this land to be used as a place where families and friends can come togther to be active, socialize, and enjoy outside nature, while being provided with different amenities on this land.
Below is a tour of the new map rendering that Pacoima Beautiful has created with the help of the citizens of Pacoima. This tour will give you a basic insight into the different amenities that will or could be provided on this land.

Open market space
Open market space is a place that is dedicated for the people of the community to come and promote their small businesses while making money. It is also a way to bring the community together and attract outsiders to this beautiful city.

This is another example of how the open market space can be used to benefit the community through flee markets and farmers markets

Apartment with stores underneath
There are multiple types of buildings that you could put in this space. The example we have here is an apartment which could provide low-income housing, that also has stores on the ground floor. These stores will help make money for the community and you could even reserve these stores for small local businesses.

Community garden
Community gardens is a place where people in the community can come together to plant vegetable and fruits that will eventually help feed the community. The food that is grown can be donated to local food pantries, given away to people in the community who need it, or sold at local farmers markets.

Education Buildings
Education Building are multipurpose buildings. These buildings can be used for local students as a place to study, it can be used as a tutoring center for kids who need the help, and it can even be used as offices for local companies.

Kids Playground
Kids playground is a place where kids and families can come and hang out together. This is beneficial because it allows these kids to have a place to go be active and social.

Sports Feilds
Sports fields is a place where people of all ages can come together to be active and social. These also provide opportunities for the city to make money by hosting sports tournaments like soccer games.

Lake/ Rain Garden
The lake and the rain garden offer the community a place to come hangout and walkaround. They also can provide an ecosystem that the animals that live in the lake depend on. The lake and garden are both great for the environment as well.
