We're building a better drive where the 57 meets the 60.
SR-57/SR-60 Interchange Improvements Project
Project Overview
The State Route 57 (SR-57) and State Route 60 (SR-60) area of confluence, between the City of Diamond Bar and City of Industry, is among the worst segments of freeway in the nation for traffic congestion and accidents. This two-mile long area is also the busiest truck freight route in the country, which adds additional stress and conflict as cars and trucks contend for position on the road. However, this is about to change.
This Project includes the following improvement sections:
- SR-60 Eastbound Grand Av bypass off-ramp
- Grand Av Interchange
- SR-60 Eastbound Bypass Connector
- Diamond Bar Bl Eastbound On-ramp
- Sound Walls and Retaining Walls
About the Project
Metro, together with the City of Diamond Bar and City of Industry, the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) and in cooperation with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 7, is preparing to complete the last of the improvements for the SR-57/SR-60 Confluence Project, which began in 2011. These final improvements, known as the SR-57/SR-60 Interchange Improvements Project, launched in Fall 2018 and will begin by advancing design of the project improvements and design features, and reevaluating environmental work in preparation for final construction.
Project Schedule

Project Goals
- Increase freeway capacity while reducing traffic congestion
- Improve traffic flow and community connections
- Increase freight travel efficiency
- Improve freeway operations and safety
- Enhance quality of life
Project Components
SR-60 Eastbound Grand Av Bypass Off-ramp
A mile long, two-lane ramp that begins immediately after the Southbound SR-57 diverge, crossing over the northbound SR-57 lanes to exit Grand Av.
Grand Av Interchange
The overpass bridge will be reconstructed for eight lanes with a new loop on-ramp for southbound Grand Av to eastbound SR-60. Compare existing and planned improvements to the interchange.
SR-60 Eastbound Bypass Connector
A half-mile long elevated bypass for northbound SR-57 and Grand Av eastbound on-ramp traffic to cross over Diamond Bl and eastbound on SR-60.
Diamond Bar Bl Eastbound On-Ramp
Widened from two to three lanes to join eastbound SR-60 past the bypass connector.
Sound Walls and Retaining Walls
Traffic noise from highway improvements can adversely affect local communities if not properly abated through the inclusion of sound walls. Sound walls and retaining walls are used for separating highway surroundings from both sound and dirt runoff. The analysis conducted as part of the project analyzed new and improved sound walls and retaining walls that are meant to provide abatement through the reduction of traffic noise. The 28 new and existing walls range in height from 8- up to 36-feet and in some cases may exceed the height of the existing walls.

Diamond Bar Golf Course Improvements
The planned freeway improvements directly impact six golf holes located along the freeway frontage and Grand Av. The project will realign and reconfigure six holes in the westerly portion of the course and three in the easterly half to maintain the overall course yardage of 6,807 and provide the same total course par of 72.
