
What happens to felled trees?
Wood is very much the material of the future but what happens to trees felled on the Chatsworth Estate?
Safety First!
Timber stacks can be unstable and can move if disturbed. Serious injury or death can occur from falling timber or collapsing stacks. Do not climb on timber stacks!
Forestry operations can be very hazardous. DO keep your distance from work sites and obey all signage. DO NOT approach any working machinery.
How is timber produced?
Timber production isn't as simple as just felling trees. There are a lot of steps between felling trees and producing timber products!
What is timber used for?
Our timber is used in the production of lots of different products ranging from woodchip and firewood to structural timbers for building!
Where does the timber go?
We sell our timber to lots of different places across the UK with it being used to create many different timber products!

The Forest Stewardship Council is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the worlds forests. The woodlands on the Chatsworth Estate are all FSC® certified and audited annually to ensure they are operating to the highest industry standards.
FSC® certification confirms that our woodlands are being managed in a way that preserves biological diversity and benefits the lives of local people and workers, while ensuring it sustains economic viability.
