This application is intended to serve as a guide to assist the public in interpreting the classification changes resulting from the PA-PC-2023 Proclamation. The maps included in this application are not intended to replace the written proclamation.
Below are maps showing the shellfish growing area classification changes resulting from PA-PC-2023. The maps on the left of the slider are the old classifications and the maps on the right of the slider are the new classifications. The slider in the middle can be moved left and right to see what is changing.
Growing Area B-8
This proclamation closes approximately 3 acres in a newly dredged marina basin in the B-8 Growing Area of Pender County. The official description of the new closure boundaries is as follows: Salters Haven Marina – All those waters within the Salters Haven Marina basin and entrance canal bounded in the southeast by a line beginning at a point 34° 21.2231’ N - 77° 41.4112’ W on the west shore of the canal; running northeasterly to a point 34° 21.2299’ N - 77° 41.3992’ W on the east shore of the canal.
This proclamation opens approximately 23 acres in the Intracoastal Waterway off of Mill Creek. The new closure boundary description for Mill Creek is as follows: Mill Creek – All those waters in Mill Creek upstream of a straight line beginning at a point 34° 20.6523’ N - 77° 42.0921’W on the north shore; running southwesterly to a point 34° 20.3922’ N - 77° 42.2148’ W; running southwesterly to a point 34° 20.3415’ N - 77° 42.2459’ W on the south shore
Growing Area E-6
This proclamation closes approximately 3 acres in Sleepy Creek. The new closure boundary description is as follows: Sleepy Creek – All those waters in Sleepy Creek upstream of a straight line beginning at a point 34° 43.9140’ N - 76° 31.5568’ W on the west shore; running easterly to a point 34° 43.9496’ N - 76° 31.4458’ W on the east shore.
Growing Area G-1
This proclamation closes approximately 114 acres in East Fork. The new closure boundary description is as follows: East Fork, Ross Creek and Bailey Creek – All those waters in East Fork northeast of a line beginning on the west shore at a point 35° 25.5404’ N - 76° 39.7109’ W; running southeasterly to a point 35° 25.4344’ N - 76° 39.4600’ W on the east shore of East Fork, to include all of Ross Creek and Bailey Creek.
Growing Area G-2
This proclamation closes approximately 81 acres around Satterthwaite and Wright Creeks. The new closure boundary description is as follows: Wright and Satterthwaite Creeks – All those waters in Wright and Satterthwaite Creeks upstream of a straight line beginning at a point 35° 25.3767’ N - 76° 35.3231’ W on the north shore; running southeasterly to a point 35° 24.8459’ N - 76° 35.1516’ W on the south shore.
Growing Area G-8
This proclamation closes approximately 69 acres around Jordan Creek and 135 acres in Slade Creek. The new closure boundary descriptions are as follows:
Jordan Creek – All those waters in Jordan Creek upstream of a line beginning at a point 35° 28.0073’ N - 76° 36.1191’ W on the north shore; running southerly to a point 35° 27.1155’ N - 76° 36.1427’ W; thence running westerly to a point 35° 27.1222’ N - 76° 36.4072’ W on the south shore.
Slade Creek – All those waters in Slade Creek upstream of a straight line beginning at a point 35° 28.2573’ N - 76° 32.5781’ W on the north shore; running southerly to a point 35° 27.9748’ N - 76° 32.3502’ W on the south shore.
Growing Area H-1
This proclamation opens approximately 60 acres in Roanoke Sound near Jockey’s Ridge State Park.
Growing Area H-3
This proclamation closes approximately 49 acres in Stumpy Point Bay near Drain Point. The new closure boundary description is as follows: Drain Point Area – All those waters within an area bounded by a line beginning at a point 35° 41.9615’ N - 75° 44.5441’ W on the northeast shore of Stumpy Point Bay; running southwesterly to a point 35° 41.8876’ N - 75° 44.6464’ W in the Bay; running southerly to a point 35° 40.8645’ N - 75° 44.6868’ W in the Bay; running easterly to a point 35° 40.8456’ N - 75° 43.9844’ W in the Bay; running northerly to a point 35° 40.9447’ N - 75° 43.9804’ W on the shore.
