Morgan County Water Study
The Morgan County Water Study was initiated to better understand the current status of water resources in the County to help ensure sustainable growth and development into the future.
This proactive approach studying the water systems of the County and active groundwater level monitoring focuses on planning instead of regulating water use. The overall goal of the study is securing the long-term water availability in Morgan County, thus ensuring the County has a sustainable water source for generations.
The following sections describe key pieces of the study, such as: the 3D Geological Model, the Aquifer Monitoring Network, the Morgan County Water Dashboard, some select findings from the Study, and a discussion on water resource planning.
Water Resource Planning
Continued growth in water use must be supported by collaboration among all water users. With collaboration and innovative solutions growth in the County can continue without conflict.
In addition to developing the groundwater network, one of the main focuses of this project is to share information between all stakeholders in the County and foster collaboration between utilities and industry to maximize efficient water use.
The goal is to coordinate development and expansion for the shared use of a limited resource. Stakeholder involvement in the long-term planning process will ensure all voices are heard.
Water resource planning, like the efforts started with this Morgan County Water Study, will be critical to the long-term sustainability of the water resources in the County and the region. As a resident of Morgan County, you can be part of the solution by:
1. Getting involved in local planning, and 2. Conserving water, particularly during the summer months.
