Photo Inspection

Perform photo-based inspections with ArcGIS QuickCapture.

Photo Inspection with QuickCapture

Capturing inspection photos is a valuable way of documenting the status and condition of your assets over time. However, the process of labeling, categorizing, and sorting photos after each site visit can be both labor-intensive and error-prone. It can also be difficult to find and view photos covering the asset you are interested in when you need them.

ArcGIS QuickCapture provides a simple and effective way to capture georeferenced field observations. With the tap of a button, an observation can be easily categorized, documented with a photo, and automatically mapped using your device's location. The following are some typical use cases:

  • Construction Site Inspection—Report daily on-site inspections, and take pictures to document the construction progress.
  • Utility Examination—Collect asset images and document issues from different viewpoints.
  • Property Inspection—Record problems and the condition of a commercial or residential building, etc.

Project overview

Photo Inspection is a sample project designed to help you quickly perform photo-based inspections with QuickCapture.

Field users simply capture their observations by taking a photo to show the severity of the problem and adding comments. Captured records are then automatically sent back to ArcGIS.

View photos from any angle for any location

Photos submitted via QuickCapture become immediately available for exploration on the map at their georeferenced locations, and have photo metadata such as acquisition date and time, the field of views, viewing extent, and capturing angles.

With this useful data, you can:

  • Explore photos by location on the map.
  • Visualize the footprint of a specific photo.
  • Inspect an object from different angles.
  • Organize photos by attributes such as the acquisition date, category, etc.

Additionally, you can also list captured photos using other ArcGIS apps, such as  ArcGIS Dashboards , and add contextual information for the viewing photos.
