The Corporation

Launched in 1886 with 14 employees, Johnson & Johnson now is an American multinational corporation with 130,000 employees across the world. It is considered as the world’s most valuable and broadly based healthcare company that develops medical devices, pharmaceutical and consumer packaged goods. It is ranked No. 37 on the 2018 Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations by total revenue and is recognized a World’s most admired company for the 17th year in a row in 2019 by Fortune.

Johnson & Johnson’s headquarter is in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The corporation includes some 250 subsidiary companies with operations and sales in virtually all countries of the world. Johnson & Johnson had worldwide sales of $82.1 billion during calendar year 2019. Consumer segment accounts for $13.9 billion, Pharmaceutical Segment $42.2 billion, and Medical devices segment for $26.0 billion (Company Fiscal year report).

J&J Supply Chain

J&J manages around 97 manufacturing sites filling approximately 15.2 million square feet of floor space. Within the U.S., five factories are dedicated to the Consumer segment, five to the Pharmaceutical segment and 22 to the Medical Devices segment. Outside of the U.S., are used by the Consumer segment takes 25 facilities, the Pharmaceutical segment does 14 and the Medical Devices segment uses 26.

J&J Supply Chain Identification

J&J pursues a diverse supplier base strategy. The corporate also works with small and local suppliers to satisfy its business needs. Currently, J&J has more than 78,000 suppliers around the world. J&J sources a variety of materials from chemicals, plastics, machinery, to packaging. More importantly, J&J actively engage suppliers to add value to its business and provide innovate solutions to its manufacturing and R&D efforts through their 50,000 supply chain associates.
