Keynote Speaker
We are pleased to announce that our Keynote Speaker for the 2021 Central PA GIS Day will be Andrea Grace Johnson! Andrea is an Assistant Division Chief in the U.S. Census Bureau’s Geography Division where she oversees the maintenance of the national geospatial database used to support the Census Bureau’s decennial census and survey activities. In her 24 years at the Census Bureau Andrea has supported the 2000, 2010, and 2020 Censuses from a variety of vantage points and has already started work on 2030! In between Censuses she leads the Bureau’s imagery and geo-location programs and a wide variety of spatial data collection and update programs emphasizing common sense cross-agency collaboration wherever possible. She earned a Master of Arts in Sociology and Demography, with a heavy dose of human geography, from the Penn State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Michigan State University.
Exhibit Gallery
As with past years, there will be an exhibit hall featuring state agencies, educational institutions, local government, private companies, non-profits and more. Represent your company or agency by having an exhibit page at the event! If you would like to include your organization in this year's Exhibit Hall, please register today!
Humanitarian Mapping
Harrisburg University annually hosts a Humanitarian Event where areas of the world that are stricken by disasters are mapped in order to provide aid. These areas do not have maps that accurately represent the landscape and infrastructure needed to provide this assistance.
Student Sessions
Whether be in-person drone flying, or GIS exercises that can be completed virtually in your own classrooms, we believe it is imperative to get high school and middle school students some real-world exposure to GIS. Through GIS Day, it is our hope that students learn about the profession, as well as get to participate. Additional details on the Student Sessions will be coming in the weeks ahead.
2021 GIS Day Committee
GIS Day 2021 is made possible thanks to the efforts of our dedicated committee. Thanks to everyone for their time and efforts!
