Fire danger from Low to Moderate within the area of Gorischheide according to the Fire Danger Forecast ( EFFIS )
27/06 (09:00) - Event description
On the 27 June 2023 at 09:00 UTC, a fast spreading wildfire affecting an area of about 150 hectares in eastern Germany was reported. The area was known to be contaminated by ammunitions. The fire broke out on Tuesday and it was initially extinguished. Nevertheless, the embers began to burn again fanned by the wind. A year ago, a destructive fire affected Gorischheide that caused millions in damages ( mdr and LR online news).
28/06 (15:49) - Activation start
On the 28 June 2023 at 15:49 UTC, the Germany|Gemeinsames Melde- und Lagezentrum von Bund und Landern (GMLZ) triggered Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping service to cover the fire event affecting the eastern Germany. Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping was requested to provide initial rough estimation, fire extent and damage assessment emergency mapping.
29/06 (15:13) - Activation closure
The Authorised User requested to close the activation because the wildifre is no longer active.

Additional information
The graph below shows the cumulative burnt areas in Germany for 2023 compared to the past. Notably with this event, the cumulative burnt area has never reached this level before (since 2006) in Spring.
