Readjusting to Society

Formerly Incarcerated individuals are at a disadvantage. Public services are basic needs that they are entitled to.

Our aim is to ensure that formerly incarcerated individuals have access to basic services. It is known that the formerly incarcerated are marginalized and have a harder time getting employment, housing, and keeping up good health. As we pin point the locations in Los Angeles with the greatest community of formerly incarcerated we want to ensure that services for these people are readily available. Through this information, we want to determine possible areas where we can heavily focus while at the same time pin point those who are in remote areas and ways in which we can bring these services to them.

"A criminal record today authorizes precisely the forms of discrimination we supposedly left behind- discrimination in employment, housing, education, public benefits, and jury service. Those labeled criminals can even be denied the right to vote." -Michelle Alexander
