This story map was produced by the Heritage Office in Longford County Council, to coincide with National Water Heritage Day in 2020.

The online interactive story map 'Longford's Wetlands - A story map about wetland habitats in County Longford' features information on the different types of wetlands that occur in the county and information on these wetlands.

The story map explains why wetlands are important, to our wildlife and our own health through the ecosystem services wetlands provide, and gives information on the key wetlands that occur in the county, namely Longford's peat bogs. The formation of these bogs is explained and why they should be conserved. The story map includes a wetlands to visit section and other useful links where visitors can learn more about wetlands in the county.

The story map was written and created by Mary Catherine Gallagher and Patrick Crushell from Wetland Surveys Ireland, with photography by Peter Foss of Foss Environmental Consulting.
