2021 Comp Plan Update

In late 2020, the Planning Commission (at the direction of the Board of Supervisors) began reviewing the 2019 Long-Range Comprehensive Plan and updating its content. At a series of workshops, the Planning Commission prepared a draft Future Land Use Map and supporting text. The Future Land Use Map designates areas where growth should occur and specifies what uses may be appropriate in different parts of Powhatan County. Recommended land uses shown on this map are considered when evaluating development proposals, such as rezoning requests.

Use the maps below to explore the proposed Future Land Use Map associated with the 2021 Comprehensive Plan Update.

The comprehensive plan is an advisory document that establishes a vision of what Powhatan County should look like in 20 to 30 years. The comprehensive plan addresses a variety of topics (including land use, housing, economic development, and natural resources) and identifies different strategies that could be implemented to realize the community’s vision.
