The Importance of Pollinators

Pollinators are absolutely essential for both ecosystem health and agriculture.

Ecosystem Health:  Flowering plants are vita l for sequestering carbon, purifying water, filtering air, and preventing erosion and pollination is requisite for their survival.

Agriculture: More than 150 US food crops – including almost all fruits and grains – are  dependent on pollinators  with the value of domestic agricultural crop pollination estimated at $10 billion annually.

Economy: Pollinators have a significant impact on the economy by contributing more than  $24 billion  to the US economy .

Despite their critical importance, pollinators are facing their largest threats from habitat destruction and pesticide use.

2023 Legislative Highlights

This year,  25 states  introduced bills to regulate the use of pesticides and  20 states  introduced bills to restore pollinator habitats. Check out some of the enacted or innovative bills from the year.
