
EPA Redevelopment Success Stories
EPA has facilitated redevelopment in 3 Michigan communities leading to $1.4 Billion in investment and the creation of over 8,000 jobs.
EPA Region 5 and States continue to address historic contamination at 49 former General Motors (GM) plants in five states working with the Revitalizing Auto Communities Environmental Response (RACER) Trust. Since 2011, EPA has overseen cleanup at these properties, issuing Prospective Purchaser Agreements and comfort letters to potential buyers.
Livonia, Michigan
A $90 million investment creating 1,100 jobs.
This 120-acre former GM spring and bumper plant was cleaned up and redeveloped as an Amazon fulfillment center in 2017. A second parcel has been developed as a beverage distribution facility with an investment of $50 million and an expected 400 jobs.

M1 Concourse - Pontiac, Michigan
A $50 million investment creating 100 jobs.
This 87-acre former GM plant was cleaned up and redeveloped into M1 Concourse Exit EPA in 2016, a 1.5-mile, 11-turn paved performance track and mixed-use commercial development targeting automotive enthusiasts in the Detroit area.

Willow Run - Ypsilanti, Michigan
A $120 million investment creating hundreds of jobs.
This 321-acre former B-24 bomber plant and GM plant was cleaned up and redevelopment is underway for the Yankee Air Museum Exit EPA and the American Center for Mobility Exit EPA , a connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) research facility.
