The Risk MAP Process in Utah
A customizable approach that results in improved knowledge of flood risk and mitigation in Utah communities

The Risk MAP Process is Collaborative
Utah Risk MAP is coordinated by Utah's Division of Emergency Management using grant money from FEMA. However, the project would not happen without the involvement of city and county floodplain administrators and other community officials. Local administrators will be involved all the way through to the adoption of the effective FIRM and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report into their floodplain management ordinance. This involvement may include validating map update needs; participating in Discovery and other Risk MAP meetings before, during and after the preparation of the FIRM; identifying topographic and base map data sources; reviewing data and mapping products; and serving as the local repository for historic and effective Flood Hazard Boundary Maps, FIRMs, FIS reports, and Letters of Map Change.

FEMA Coordinated Needs Management Strategy Viewer FEMA’s Coordinated Needs Management Strategy (CNMS) uses a geospatial database to identify and track flood hazard study lifecycle and mapping needs within the flood hazard mapping program. CNMS supports community officials and FEMA personnel in analyzing and depicting the validity of flood studies to enhance the understanding of flood hazard risk and make informed decisions on community planning and flood mitigation.
