Safe Streets Palmetto Bay
A comprehensive roadmap for implementing Village-wide Complete Streets, and eliminating and preventing severe traffic crashes.
The Safe Streets Palmetto Bay Action Plan is the Village of Palmetto Bay's first comprehensive transportation plan to advance Vision Zero : the elimination and prevention of traffic fatalities and serious injuries. The Plan will inventory, analyze, and bring together the Village's previous transportation plans and studies, informed by a detailed crash and equity analysis, to identify priority projects and action items related to five Plan "spheres": the bicycle and pedestrian network (including trails), Safe Routes to School, traffic calming, transit connectivity, and barriers to transportation equity Village-wide (including physical barriers, like US-1). The Action Plan will include concept designs of key projects, as well as recommendations as for which priority projects could be implemented using the Quick-Build methodology in order to accellerate implementation.

What is Quick-Build?
The Quick-Build methodology is based off of a practice called Tactical Urbanism , an approach to project delivery that uses low-cost, and often temporary, materials to evaluate long-term, capital projects. Quick-Build projects are often called "pilot" projects, and allow municipalities and communities to experience "renderings in real-time" of proposed priority projects before large investments are made in permanent infrastructure.
The Action Plan will include concept designs of priority projects, and several of these priority projects will include "Quick-Build alternatives", guiding the Village as to how to get them in the ground shortly following Plan adoption to evaluate their performance and community response.
