This geonarrative explores the USGS SPCMSC Geologic Core and Sample Database. The database was developed to track the provenance of all cores and samples published and collected by, or in collaboration with, center scientists. The goal is to enable data discoverability and improve accessibility of published research. The database captures metadata about collected cores and samples throughout the entire data lifecycle – from the planning phase through publication. Only published core and sample data is available in the public version of the database.
