
Resorts in Wright County
With some of the best fishing in the state and close proximity to the Twin Cities, Wright County was known for its fine resorts.

This is an interactive page that allows viewers to learn a brief history of 9 out of the 100+ resorts throughout Wright County along various lakefronts. This is a small snapshot into the world of summer resorts and there are many more to come! Using historical maps to plat these resorts as accurately as possible; we focus on the owners of the resorts, their land and accommodations, as well as when the resort changed hands. We want this page to spark interest in our county's resorts, recollections of time spent there and the importance they had on our communities. All information can be found at the Wright County Historical Society in Buffalo, Minnesota.

A group of men and women visit near the lakeshore at Clearwater Lake near Annandale. The boats anchored near the shore were rental boats. Each cottage in the resort came with a specific assigned boat. In 1905, cottages could be rented for $1.50 a day or from $6.00 to $8.00 a week. (Found in WC photo collection- WC 55-059.)

The photo shows swimsuit styles of the 1920s. Suits for both men and women often had skirts and were made of wool. Men's suits usually covered the chest. Swimmers were posed at Haffner's Resort on the shores of Lake Charlotte near Rockford. (Found in the WC photo collection- WC56-025).
Vacationers often came from several states away to stay at resorts in Wright County. This photo was taken about 1912 at Shadduck's Resort near Annandale. The car was driven up from Ansley, Nebraska by a member of the Burrows family. In the back seat are Gertrude Burrows and Mrs. Burrows. In the front seat are Ed Burrows, C.A. (Spike) Bueker, and Mr. Burrows. (Found in WC Photo Collection- WC55-023)
