◦ Pawleys Island ◦
One of the points on this map is Cedarbrook Middle school, this is the school I go to and I'm creating this website for a project here. The other Point is Pawleys Island and my house is on this coastal plain.
Pawleys Island is a gorgeous area in South Carolina. It is also known as “arrogantly shabby.” This town goes all the way back to the 1700s and has only changed a little since then. Pawleys Island has also always been known for the ferocious waves, beautiful beaches, pristine, and refreshing waters. I would join in that statement, because it is one of my favorite beaches. Pawleys Island is also known for many riches living in this area and there are many big houses and so many fun activities and landmarks to check. I like to spend my time here with my close friends and family splashing in the waves. Pawleys Island is definitely one of the best places to rent out for a week in the summer but can also be enjoyed in other seasons as well. It is pretty warm all year round, though maybe not swimming weather in chilly seasons. Pawley’s Island is an amazing area to spend your time at from crystal clear beaches, to all the fun activities to do!

◦ My connection ◦
Pawleys Island is one of my favorite places to be! Me and my family enjoy our house on the beach all seasons round and sometimes go on Thanksgiving and Christmas. The house we own is my step dad's family so being there brings his half of the family with mine and we all spend our time together walking on the beach, exploring the shops, and just chilling around the house.
Although, my favorite time to spend here is the summer time. I get to bring my close friend every summer and we have a blast! Our favorite thing to do together is play in the waves. From the warm morning dives into the frothy bubbles, to the dark night swims. We always have a blast together and her being there makes it way more fun. My personal memory of Pawleys Island always consist of the the distinct smell of the salty ocean, the feeling the soft warm sand beneath my toes, the thrill of running into the waves as it pushes you back to the sand, the taste of seafood filling your taste buds as you and your best friend laugh over the dinner table, and just the overall cosy feeling you get from being with your loved ones. All these feelings are not only what makes my connection to Pawleys Island stronger, it also makes me and my family's connection feel more stronger.

◦ Pawleys Island Beach and activities ◦
This map is labeled of different areas and attractions located on Pawleys Island's beaches.
Pawleys Island has a few beaches, gorgeous clear waters, is a barrier island, and the beaches are located in the Atlantic Ocean. Pawleys Island has been around for a very long time and claims to be "the oldest beach resort town in America," so there are many things to do here and stuff dating back to over hundreds of years ago.
You can spend your time here collecting seashells, swimming deep in the ocean, catching fish, and more! If playing in the waves might not be your vibe, there are a lot of fun things to do along the sand. For example, Huntington Beach State Park is a park on the beach with so many animals to see and is a beautiful walk. If your interested in ghosts, you can take the boat tour to the Georgetown Lighthouse, explore the the island the lighthouse is on, and the tour guide will inform you about the ghost Annie who used to live in the lighthouse with her father and her story. Another area is Pawleys Pier. It's a pier that you can walk on and take beautiful pictures, though more than half of it was blown away in a hurricane. There are also many shops outside of ocean grounds and delicious seafood spots.
Activities involving the ocean are always really fun but if it isn't really your jam, then Pawleys Island has many more options and is a great place to spend your time!
My favorite sunset pictures taken outside on the beach of my beach house!

◦ Environment of the Sand Dunes ◦
This map has some of the parts of Pawleys Island's beaches. Each one of these areas are facing dune loss, including all of Pawleys Island's beaches.
Pawleys Island is gorgeous, but the dunes on the beaches are washing away. More than 5 acres of beach and dune have disappeared. 2.7 miles of shoreline and 110,000 dump trucks of sand is the amount of sand needed to fix the beaches in Pawleys Island. Even decades old dunes are starting to fall apart. This is really upsetting to many because the dunes are in front of most houses on the beach and protect them from storms. If the dunes wash away, the ocean will tear down the homes.
Not only that, the dunes look nice and it's very important they are in good shape to protect us. The main cause of the dunes washing away is storms. Since climate change has taken a part in making the storms bigger, it has become worse. Two big storms that hit badly on the dunes were hurricanes Joaquin and Matthew. Despite the obstacles, the dunes are able to slowly rebuild themselves. To help them rebuild, we need to not walk on them. This is a small act that can really make a difference and there are people working on trying to help fix this currently.
As citizens or visitors of Pawleys Island, we need to all pitch in to help the dunes stand tall, protecting you and the homes.
Here are some pictures of the dunes. That piece of wood is a barrier put there to help block the ocean from the dunes so they can rebuild themselves and stay strong.

◦ Sea food ◦
This map is labeled highly reviewed seafood restaurants in Pawleys Island.
Pawleys Island has some really well known and tasty seafood, and many fishing spots! Some of these sea foods include oyster roasts, fried seafood platters, lowcountry boils, crab cakes, local grouper and flounder dishes, and raw bar fare such as clams, mussels, crab legs, and shrimp. Along with this, South Carolina is well known for peaches and boiled peanuts.
The most well known and the "best" fishing spot in Pawleys Island is the Jetty area at the north end of the island. If you like crabbing, Pawleys Island North Causeway Bridge is the go-to spot and is well known for great catches. There are also fun dining options. Pawleys Island Tavern or "The Pit," is a fun spot where you can sign a dollar bill and staple it almost anywhere in the restaurant to leave your mark. Me and my friend ended up doing this and it's still there today!
Pawleys Island has so many delicious sea food options, along with great areas to catch some.
Restaurants, and more restaurants! Us signing our dollar bill and standing in The Pit!
