The Pinellas Trail
A 45-mile Path Through Paradise
The famous and well-traveled Pinellas Trail, whose main section stretches for 45 miles along the pristine Gulf Coast off of Pinellas County, has long been the pride and recreational focal point for residents of the Tampa Bay Area of Florida.
A History of Change
The trail's history began in the 1980s when the Atlantic Coast Line and Seaboard Air Line railroads abandoned their railroad tracks in Pinellas County. Subsequently, residents voted to turn the segments into a public trail to improve road safety. Today, the Pinellas Trail spans most of the western and southern parts of the county and—by 2025—visitors are expected to be able to complete a 75-mile loop around the entire county. According to the county government, as many as 160,000 people enjoy the Pinellas Trail each month, whether for biking, jogging, or walking.

The Pinellas Trail receives over 160,000 visitors every month.
