Omega Curves
Interagency coordination to determine wildlife crossing design and locations.
To address the high rate of wildlife-vehicle collisions on the curved highway, Caltrans intends to modify the curves and add turnouts to update the roadway to current safety standards and install wildlife crossings.
The Omega Curves was made possible by interagency coordination and data sharing as well as Caltrans' efforts to recognize wildlife movement is impeded by existing highways and should be mitigated. We applaud District 3 for working internally to make sure infrastructure is designed to accommodate wildlife. Thanks to Caltrans and participating agencies, a contractor will be selected to construct wildlife crossings in October 2021 !
