Port Pirie Visitor Information Centre

The multi-award winning and nationally accredited Visitor Information Centre is the outcome of a Port Pirie Regional Council initiative that involved the redevelopment of the former Port Pirie Railway Station.

Masonic Lodge

Built in 1899 this ornate building was built for the Port Pirie Lodge of Freemasons. The building is adorned with emblems relating to the Freemasons.

WWI Memorial Gates

Opened in 1924 to commemorate those who died in service or killed in action in World War 1.

'John Pirie' Anchor

Lost from the schooner 'John Pirie' off Aldinga south of Adelaide 1841. It was recovered off the seabed in 1967 and displayed to commemorate the ship which contributed to the establishment of Port Pirie.

Royal Australian Navy Memorial

This memorial was unveiled in 1985 and commemorates the Naval personnel from the Port Pirie District.

WWII Memorial Gates

The gates commemorate those who died in service or killed in action during World War 2.

South East Asia Memorial

Situated on Memorial Drive, the dedication date for this memorial was 26th January 1990.

Federal Hotel

Opened in 1898 as the Rising Sun Hotel. The name was changed to the Federal Hotel in 1901 to mark the federation of Australia. The tower is a prominent feature which was used by pilots and wharf workers who needed to see when the ships were sailing up the gulf.

Northern Festival Centre

Was offically opened in 1982, the building contains a ballroom, meeting rooms, reception areas and a 500 seat theatre. Later that year a special grand opening celebration included a performance by Keith Michell the theatre's namesake.

St Mark's Catherdral

Built in 1947 on the site of former 1881 St Mark’s Church which was destroyed by fire. A congregation of nearly 2000 attended the grand opening.

Former Bowden Timber Mill

After arriving in Port Pirie Thomas Bowden established his timber importing & milling business in 1883, he was a well known boat builder and was the first in the state to build sliding seats in racing boats.

Former 'Recorder'

The building was built in 1917 to be used as a Sunday School for children, the local newspaper "The Recorder" moved into the premises in 1927.

Memorial Park

Memorial Park is open to everyone and is perfect to just sit and relax in the beautiful surroundings or have a bbq and let the kids play on the playground. The park includes tributes to Australian Service Men and Women who served and fell in all wars in Australian military history.

The BH Community Club

Originally a business established on this corner site by Symonds Brothers 1899. Purchased by Charles Geddes in 1940 and the BHAS shiftworkers opened it as their clubrooms in 1950.

Greek Orthodox Church

After establishing a Greek church in Port Pirie in 1924, this church was built in 1957 with the foundation stone was laid by Archbishop Theophylactoros who was the leader of the Greek Orthodox Church.

Mission to Seafarers

The Church of England established the mission in 1924 but have operated from this building since 1945. The doors of the mission are open 365 days of the year to any seafarer regardless of nationality or politics.

St Paul's Anglican Cathedral

Built as St Paul's Anglican Church in 1899, declared Anglican Cathedral circa 1999.

Carn Brae

This magnificent building was built in 1909. The house was named after Castle Carnbrae in Cornwall, where owner W.H. Moyle and his family originated from.

Nyrstar Port Pirie Smelter

One of the largest primary lead smelters in the world, the Stack is 205m high and was completed in 1979

Former Adelaide Steamship Company

The Adelaide Steamship Company was Australia's largest shipping company and one of South Australia's most successful business ventures.

International Hotel

Opened in 1875 and was originally named Howe's Hotel after its owner James Henderson Howe. The first Port Pirie Council meeting was held in the cellar in 1876.

Court House

Built circa 1880 and used as the Court House, in 1963 the building was the Customs House

Railway Station

Operated from 1902 until 1967, this is a National Trust and Heritage listed building. In the Museum grounds is the former Police Station - built 1892 and former Customs House - built 1882

Post Office

Built in 1910, replacing the single story Telegraph Station circa 1880, that was originally on the site.

Shipping and Family Butcher

Built circa 1898 as a Butchery for Sampson & Close. Now Sampson's Cottage is heritage accommodation.

Portside Tavern

Built in 1878, the Portside Tavern was once Pirie’s grandest hotel. The hotel was first known as the Royal Exchange Hotel

Barrier Chambers

Built in 1906, the building is an important reminder of Port Pirie's major shipping role in the economic fortunes of South Australia. The building was used as the Harbour Masters Office until 1965. It is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register.

Family Hotel

Opening in 1904 the hotel was built for John Barrington Knight who was licensee from 1904-1911.The building has a National Trust listing and is heritage listed.

Former Public Library

Built 1932 and was Port Pirie's Public Library, it's now used as a Uni Hub.

Former AMP Insurance Building

Constructed in 1916, the building was the original home of the AMP Insurance Company.

Port Pirie Hotel

Built in 1873 this was the first hotel built in Port Pirie. The hotel was one of the first buildings to be constructed with stone.
