The Hunter has localised the targets and chosen to report against the following primary indicators* to determine our progress:
- 6.3.1 Proportion of waste water treated, recycled, volume supplied
- Percentage of recycled water in total supply in Hunter region
- Percentage of waste water safely treated
- 6.4.1 Change in water use efficiency
- Annual water consumption - average per dwelling (kilolitre/year)
* Data provided was last updated in 2023. It is anticipated that the data sets will be updated once every 2 years.

Percentage of recycled water in total supply in Hunter region
Trend
The use of recycle water in total supply was at its peak during 2019-2020. There has been a decline in this value since.

Trend
Wastewater treatment in Hunter region shows a slight decline since 2016. NSW depicts stable high values of wastewater treatment.

Data extract uses the National performance reports benchmark of Australian water utilities. Indicators include water resource supply and usage, financial operations, bills and pricing, assets, water quality compliance and customer performance.

Hunter region on an average shows a decline in annual water consumption since 2017-2018.
Things to note
Lower Hunter target for household is calculated by multplying per person per day value 155, with 365 days and 2.5 (average person per houshold in hunter from ABS census data). Lower bound- LHWSP based on 2.2 average person household in Mid coast. Upper bound - LHWSP based on 2.7 average person household in Singleton & Maitland.
